Copa Airlines delays start of 737 MAX 8 operations
Panamanian airline Copa Airlines has been forced to delay the start of operations with the 737 MAX 8 due to problems Boeing is facing with the delivery of new aircraft.
The airline initially planned to begin flights with the MAX 8 on July 5, 2024, with the flight between Panama City and Port of Spain (Trinidad), according to the company’s website. It later changed the date to August 15.
In its latest update, the airline indicates that the model will now enter service on September 2, almost two months later than planned. The inaugural flight will be on the Panama City-Quito route, which will take off at 22:30.

Copa’s 737 MAX 8 will have a 166-seat configuration: 16 in business class and 150 in economy.
The airline currently operates 95 aircraft: seven Boeing 737-700s, 58 B737-800s and 30 B737 MAX 9s.
According to Cirium Ascend Fleet Analyzer data, Copa has seven 737 MAX 8s and 15 MAX 10s on order.
