Today, July 25, JetSMART Airlines celebrates its eighth anniversary with a record of more than 30 million passengers. In this time, the Ultra Low Cost airline, which started as a start-up, has positioned itself as the largest and most modern airline in the region and has consolidated its presence in South America with 40 aircraft and more than 80 routes in 8 markets.

“We are entering a new phase at JetSMART, achieving significant scale by serving 8 countries and operating in 4 domestic markets. We have become the largest Ultra Low Cost airline in South America, with the newest fleet in the Americas and the fifth newest in the world, as well as having one of the lowest carbon footprints in the industry. Total thanks to our employees at JetSMART for making this possible, they are Rockstars,” said JetSMART’s CEO and founder, Estuardo Ortiz.

“In July 2022, two years ago, we began accelerated growth to make up for lost time during the pandemic and capitalize on the opportunities that arose from it. This July 2024, for the first time, we will exceed one million passengers in a single month, more than double what we achieved in July 2022. Since then, we have added an average of one aircraft per month, going from 17 to the 40 we have today. We were able to take advantage of crises, anticipate, be fast and flexible, which allowed us to expand into Peru and Colombia,” added Ortiz.

Among the airline’s most important milestones this year was the opening of domestic operations in Colombia, in addition to its more mature operations in Argentina, Chile and Peru. With the recent launch of the route to San Andres, the airline reached 15 routes in the coffee-growing country, contributing to and providing a solution to the growing demand for connections in the area.

“JetSMART’s mission to connect people is more alive than ever. From day one, we fearlessly took on the challenge of creating a new paradigm by bringing the experience of flying to those who previously could not afford it, to improve connectivity between countries in the region and unite families. Today we see how this is materializing: of the more than 30 million passengers, 6 million have flown for the first time thanks to the access offered by our Ultra Low Cost model,” said Ortiz.

The airline has a long-term commitment to South America and plans to operate more than 100 aircraft by 2028, with which it expects to continue growing and stimulating the market. This expansion will take advantage of the region’s high growth potential and the tourism and economic opportunities in the countries it serves.

In these eight years, JetSMART has demonstrated steady growth, reflected in a 23% increase in passenger numbers over last year and an impressive 233% increase from 2019. The airline will continue to focus on offering more access to air services for its customers, reinforcing its commitment to connecting people and breaking down barriers under a disruptive and transformative model.
