Spanish airline Volotea announced Wednesday the official opening of its new base at Bari Airport, continuing its strategic expansion in Italy.

This is the airline’s 21st base in its total network, after the recent opening of Brest, France, and the eighth in the Italian market. From this new base, Volotea offers a total of 18 destinations to 5 countries (Spain, Italy, France, Croatia and Greece), of which two are new routes to Spain: Bilbao and Malaga.

For this year, Volotea plans from Bari a capacity of 224,000 seats (+37% compared to 2023), more than 1,260 flights and an Airbus A320 based at Bari Karol Wojtyla Airport.

Volotea is “Europe’s Best Low-Cost Airline” in 2024, according to Skytrax

For the route to Bilbao, which will be operated exclusively by Volotea from July 5 until August 30, the airline offers more than 6,000 seats, with a frequency of two flights per week on Mondays and Fridays. As for the new route with Malaga, which will be operated by the airline from July 6 to August 31, the company offers more than 6,000 seats with a frequency of two flights per week on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

“We are very pleased to announce the opening of our new base in Bari and the inauguration of two new routes from Spain to southern Italy for this summer,” said Carlos Muñoz, CEO of Volotea.

For this summer Volotea will offer more than 105 routes to and from Spain, with more than 6,600 flights planned in the country. This translates into approximately 1.1 million seats available, a growth of 85% compared to 2019, and it expects to carry more than 1 million passengers, an increase of 5% compared to 2023.

As for the airline’s operations in Italy, the company will operate 171 routes this year and offer more than 4.2 million seats on more than 25,000 flights.
