Tocumen International Airport continues to position itself as the most important hub in the region. During the first nine months of 2024, Panama’s main air terminal has registered an accumulated movement of 14,337,587 passengers, representing a 9% increase over the same period of the previous year.
The month of September closed with a total of 1,570,504 passengers moving through Tocumen International Airport, consolidating its position as one of the main hubs in the region. Of this total, 75% corresponds to transit passengers, reaffirming the airport’s strategic role as a key international hub for airlines operating in Latin America.
“The growth in passenger movement is a positive sign for the country’s economy and the tourism sector. Tocumen continues to be a key transit point and final destination for millions of travelers,” said Tocumen International Airport General Manager Jose Ruiz Blanco.
The Planning Department of Tocumen International Airport noted that during the first nine months of the year, a total of 2,006,254 passengers arrived, representing a 9% growth compared to the same period in 2023.

Likewise, the number of travelers departing from Tocumen reached 2,130,315, an increase of 14% over the previous year. An average of 53,000 people transit daily through terminals 1 and 2 of the Central American airport.
Through September 2024, Tocumen has handled 113,829 air operations, an 8% increase over the previous year, with 88% of these operations corresponding to commercial flights. In the ninth month of the year alone, 12,433 aircraft maneuvers were performed, representing an increase of 6% compared to the same month of 2023.
Tocumen International Airport recorded an average of 416 daily operations during the month of September. Currently, 13 commercial airlines and 16 cargo airlines operate at the airport, connecting Panama with more than 85 destinations worldwide and strengthening its strategic role in air and logistics traffic.
The Top 5 of cumulative international destinations in 2024 is headed by Bogota, Colombia, with a total of 762,532 passengers. It is followed by Miami, United States, with 683,206 travelers, while Medellin, Colombia, ranks third with 528,151 users. Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, is in fourth place with 497,867 passengers, and in fifth place is San José, Costa Rica, with 492,782 passengers.
Cargo movement at Tocumen International Airport between January and September 2024 reached a cumulative total of 155,428 metric tons, representing a 4% increase compared to the same period of the previous year. This increase is equivalent to an additional 5,671 metric tons.
These results confirm Tocumen International Airport’s strategic position as the main hub for connections in Latin America, not only for its capacity to move millions of passengers, but also for its growing relevance in cargo transportation.
