Santiago International Airport, Chile’s main air terminal, achieved a milestone in 2024 by recording a record-breaking 26,254,957 passengers. This figure marks the highest volume of users in the airport’s history, representing a 12% increase compared to 2023 and a 6% rise over the nearly 25 million passengers recorded in 2019, prior to the pandemic.
Historic Growth in December 2024
December 2024 also stood out as an exceptional month. According to reports from the main stakeholders of Nuevo Pudahuel, Groupe ADP and VINCI Airports, the airport welcomed 2,394,714 passengers during the month, reflecting a 10% increase compared to December 2023. This growth underscores the strong recovery and sustained expansion of air traffic in the country.
Aircraft Movements on the Rise
In addition to the passenger record, 163,967 takeoffs and landings were reported throughout 2024. This represents an 11.7% increase compared to the previous year and a 4.3% rise over 2019 figures.
Expectations for Austral Summer 2025
For January and February 2025, Santiago Airport anticipates handling over 5 million passengers, a 4.4% increase compared to the same period last year. This trend confirms the continued growth in demand for air travel in Chile.
The steady increase in passenger traffic and aircraft movements positions Santiago Airport as a critical driver of the country’s economy and tourism. Expanding infrastructure and optimizing services will be essential to sustaining this growth and solidifying its importance in the region.
