In a strategic move to enhance passenger experience, Finnair has announced a new codeshare partnership with American Airlines, granting its customers access to 12 popular destinations in Mexico. This agreement, set to commence operations on January 23, 2025, aims to simplify travel for those looking to explore Mexico—a highly sought-after destination for travelers from Finland and Northern Europe, especially during the winter months.
Connections from Dallas-Fort Worth to Mexico
Thanks to this partnership, Finnair passengers will be able to fly from American Airlines’ main hub at Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) to the following destinations in Mexico:
- Guanajuato
- Monterrey
- Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo
- Cancún
- Cozumel
- Guadalajara
- Mexico City
- Mérida
- Oaxaca
- Puerto Vallarta
- Querétaro
- San José del Cabo
This agreement complements Finnair’s current operations to Dallas-Fort Worth Airport, which will offer daily flights during the winter of 2024-2025 and increase capacity to 11 flights per week during the summer of 2025.
Benefits for Finnair Customers
With this agreement, Finnair customers will enjoy several advantages, including:
- Simplified booking: Passengers can book their entire journey under a single Finnair flight number.
- Avios points accumulation: Travelers can earn Avios points for the entire trip, enhancing their loyalty program experience.
- Extended coverage: The agreement significantly expands the existing joint route network under the Atlantic Joint Business alliance, to which both airlines belong.
Fredrik Wildtgrube, Finnair’s Senior Vice President of Alliances and Airline Partnerships, stated that this step “opens up a comprehensive choice of destinations for our customers to Mexico, which is a popular travel destination from Finland and Northern Europe, especially in winter. Besides Mexico, American Airlines offers our customers excellent connections via Dallas to elsewhere in the United States and America.”
Anmol Bhargava, American Airlines’ Vice President of Partnerships, emphasized that “the expansion will give Finnair customers smoother access to popular destinations in Mexico and more convenient connections on American’s expansive network from Mexico to Finland and beyond.”
