The Brazilian airline GOL inaugurated a new international route on Saturday, connecting Recife, the capital of Pernambuco, with Cordoba, Argentina’s second-largest city.

A New Argentine Destination from Brazil’s Northeast

The inaugural flight departed from Recife at 18:15 on Saturday and landed in Cordoba just after midnight on Sunday. The return flight took off at 01:00 on April 13, arriving in Pernambuco’s capital shortly before 06:00. With this addition, GOL strengthens its presence in the Argentine market, the most significant for its international network.

This new link becomes the airline’s second international operation from Recife, which already offers regular direct flights to Jorge Newbery Airport in Buenos Aires.

Strategic Alliance with Regional Impact

The launch of the Recife-Cordoba flight results from a collaboration between GOL and the government of Pernambuco, facilitated by the Pernambuco Tourism Company (Empetur). This initiative aims not only to boost tourist traffic but also to promote cargo transport, corporate travel, and business opportunities between the two regions.

Mateus Pongeluppi, GOL’s Commercial Vice President, stated: “The Recife-Cordoba route is a milestone in cooperative market development. Expanding our presence in Argentina is a cornerstone of our international strategy, which is already underway and will continue to grow in the coming years.”

Eduardo Loyo, President of Empetur, added: “We are thrilled to inaugurate another international route from Pernambuco, this time to Cordoba—a historic city and a key source of tourists for our state.”

Expansion in Argentina: Five Airports, Four Cities

Currently, GOL operates in five Argentine airports: Aeroparque and Ezeiza in Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Cordoba, and Rosario. From Argentina, passengers can fly nonstop to 13 Brazilian destinations across the South, Southeast, Central-West, and Northeast regions.

For Cordoba, this new connection to Recife complements existing routes to Rio de Janeiro, Florianopolis, and São Paulo/Guarulhos. With a weekly flight to Recife, a new gateway to Brazil’s coveted Northeast region is now open.
