American Airlines and Qantas announced a significant expansion of their operations between the United States and Australia on Tuesday, aimed at facilitating travel during the Northern Hemisphere winter. Starting December 5 and running through late January 2026, the U.S. carrier will launch three weekly flights between Los Angeles and Brisbane. Meanwhile, the Australian airline will increase its frequencies to daily flights between Dallas Fort Worth and Melbourne beginning December 3.

Additionally, Qantas will operate all its flights between Dallas and Sydney with its iconic Airbus A380 starting in January, offering passengers a more spacious and comfortable experience.

Beyond the Flight: A Network Connecting Continents

These new flights are part of the joint commercial agreement between American Airlines and Qantas, now in its fourth consecutive year of expanding connectivity between the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific. The alliance enables seamless connections from over 200 destinations across North America—including New York (JFK), San Francisco, and Vancouver—to four major gateways in Oceania: Auckland, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney.

Cam Wallace, CEO of Qantas International, stated: “The strength of our alliance with American Airlines continues to greatly benefit our customers worldwide. We know Australia remains highly popular among U.S. travelers, and these changes will enhance connectivity with our extensive domestic network.”

Unique Experiences and State-of-the-Art Aircraft

For those dreaming of exploring Australia’s unique landscapes—from the beaches of the Whitsundays and the Great Barrier Reef to the Southern Lights in Tasmania or the quokkas on Rottnest Island—this route expansion offers more ways to plan the perfect trip.

American Airlines has also confirmed that its refurbished Boeing 787-9, featuring 51 Flagship Suite seats and 32 Premium Economy seats, will be available on all flights between Dallas and Brisbane. This enhanced cabin is designed to deliver a luxurious experience with greater privacy and comfort.

The successful seasonal service between Dallas and Brisbane, previously introduced by American, will return on October 26. Tickets for the new Los Angeles-Brisbane route will be available starting May 12.

Exclusive Benefits for Frequent Flyers

The alliance also enhances benefits for frequent travelers. Members of American Airlines’ AAdvantage program can earn and redeem miles on flights operated by Qantas and even opt for cabin upgrades on eligible fares. Additionally, elite-status members enjoy priority check-in, extra baggage allowance, lounge access, and other privileges, regardless of which airline they fly with.

Steve Johnson, Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer of American Airlines, emphasized: “We are proud to partner with Qantas to expand travel options to Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne this winter. Together, we offer the most comprehensive service between the U.S. and Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific.”
