With an investment of $600.6 million, Miami-Dade County has approved the construction of the new Concourse K at Miami International Airport (MIA), a key expansion under the ambitious $9 billion “Future-Ready Modernization in Action” plan. This project marks the first terminal expansion since 2007 and represents a turning point for one of the world’s busiest airports.
2040 Goal: More Passengers, More Cargo, More Efficiency
With 56 million passengers and over 3 million tons of cargo handled in 2024 alone, MIA is operating at full capacity. The new project aims to prepare the airport for the future, targeting the ability to handle up to 77 million passengers and 5 million tons of cargo by 2040.
Concourse K will be central to this transformation, offering significant improvements in infrastructure, operational efficiency, and sustainability.

- Six new contact gates for direct boarding
- A new aircraft parking apron
- A hydrant fuel system for more efficient refueling
- Installation of two new baggage claim carousels
- Upgrades to the baggage handling system, connecting the Central and South Terminals
- A new ground support equipment maintenance facility
- LEED Silver certification to ensure sustainable construction

The mayor also highlighted the commitment of Airport Director Ralph Cutie, his team, and airport partners to bring this vision to life, strengthening the local economy and improving the experience for millions of travelers.
Who Will Execute the Project?
The construction contract has been awarded to Lemartec-NV2A JV, LLC as the general contractor, while Perez & Perez Architects Planners, Inc. will lead the architectural design.
Key Dates: Imminent Start, Completion by 2029
Construction will begin following an inaugural ceremony scheduled for this summer. Completion is expected by spring 2029, when the new Concourse K will be fully integrated into the airport’s operations.
The expansion of Miami International Airport is a strategic statement to secure its position as a global hub. With a focus on capacity, sustainability, and service, MIA is preparing not just to grow, but to lead.
