The Dominican airline Arajet announced this Tuesday the launch of a new direct route between Punta Cana and Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, expanding its U.S. network and reinforcing its commitment to tourism and regional connectivity.
Three Weekly Flights with Fares Starting at $117
Beginning November 15, the airline will operate this route with a frequency of three weekly flights. Tickets will be available starting today at 10:00 a.m., with promotional prices from $117 per segment.
With this new connection, Arajet addresses the growing demand for flights between the Dominican Republic and the United States, particularly from key tourist destinations like Punta Cana. Additionally, Chicago becomes the fifth U.S. city served by the airline, joining Boston, Miami, New York, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Growth Fueled by Open Skies Agreement
Arajet’s expansion into the U.S. is part of a broader strategy enabled by the bilateral Open Skies agreement between the Dominican Republic and the United States, which took effect last December. This pact removes several restrictions on commercial flights between the two countries, creating new opportunities for airlines and passengers alike.
Arajet CEO Víctor Pacheco emphasized that this growth “enhances connectivity for both tourists and the Dominican diaspora, while boosting tourism and economic opportunities across the region.”
Strong Financial Backing
The airline’s growth would not be possible without the support of Bain Capital and Griffin Global Asset Management, two firms providing financial backing to Arajet and strengthening its operational stability and international prospects.
With this new route, Arajet takes a decisive step in solidifying its role as a key player in continental aviation, connecting the Dominican Republic to more destinations and reaffirming its commitment to accessible air travel and regional tourism development.
