KLM Royal Dutch Airlines inaugurated its new direct route between Amsterdam and San Diego, California, this Thursday, marking its longest flight to the United States.
Flights will depart from Amsterdam at 09:50, landing in San Diego at 12:00 (local time). From California, the return flights will take off at 13:55, arriving in the Dutch capital at 09:15 the following day (local time).
The route will operate year-round, with scheduled flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. All flights will be serviced by a Boeing 787-9.

San Diego and Connectivity at Schiphol
The timing of this new route follows a clear strategy: maximizing connectivity in both directions through Amsterdam-Schiphol’s hub. The flights are synchronized with peak departure and arrival times, facilitating seamless connections to over 50 European destinations with layovers under four hours.
Key markets benefiting from this enhanced connectivity include cities such as Rome, Paris, Barcelona, Munich, Frankfurt, Zurich, Lisbon, Athens, Milan, and Venice.
