Qatar Airways has made aviation history with the launch of “Gaming in the Sky,” the first gaming competition held aboard a commercial aircraft. The event took place on May 11, 2025, during a flight from Doha to London, made possible by Starlink’s cutting-edge connectivity technology, which delivers high-speed, low-latency internet at 35,000 feet.
Global Gaming Stars Take Center Stage
The competition brought together some of the biggest names in gaming and digital entertainment. Notable participants included Tfue, Castro1021, Lisa Zimouche, Alodia Gosiengfiao, Dantic, SV2, AJ3, Aameghessib, Danny Aarons, Ffearfful, MattHDGamer, and Slater. The event was hosted by Oussifooty, who added energy and engagement to the proceedings.
Two teams, Team Burgundy Oryx and Team Grey Aviators, faced off in a high-altitude friendly showdown. Thanks to Starlink’s seamless connectivity, players enjoyed uninterrupted real-time gameplay, while fans followed the action live via Qatar Airways’ social media channels.
A Strategic Commitment to Technological Innovation
The event coincided with the final phase of Qatar Airways’ Boeing 777 fleet modernization, now equipped with integrated Starlink technology. Additionally, the airline is preparing to launch the world’s first Airbus A350 featuring this advanced connectivity.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to provide passengers with an unparalleled in-flight experience: free, ultra-fast, and reliable Wi-Fi for streaming content, online gaming, or working as if they were on the ground.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, Engineer Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, emphasized: “At Qatar Airways, we are constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the sky to deliver an onboard experience that sparks imagination and makes passengers feel at home. This competition represents a bold step toward the future of in-flight entertainment and comfort.”
