Vietjet, Vietnam’s largest private airline, has signed a new order with Airbus for the acquisition of 20 additional A330-900 aircraft. This strategic agreement, aimed at bolstering operations for the coming decade, was formalized in Hanoi with key figures in attendance: Vietjet President Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao and Airbus International President Wouter van Wersch. The signing ceremony took place during an official event marking the state visit of French President Emmanuel Macron and his Vietnamese counterpart, Luong Cuong.
This new commitment doubles Vietjet’s previous order for the A330neo, bringing the total number of wide-body aircraft ordered to 40.
Fueling International Expansion
The order for 20 additional A330-900s aligns with the airline’s international expansion strategy. According to Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, these modern, fuel-efficient aircraft have been instrumental in Vietjet’s sustained growth and will continue to play a pivotal role in strengthening its global network.

With this fleet expansion, the airline will increase frequencies on high-demand routes within the Asia-Pacific region and launch new long-haul operations to Europe, opening new possibilities for passengers across both continents.
An All-Airbus Fleet
Currently, Vietjet operates exclusively with Airbus aircraft. Its fleet consists of 115 single-aisle A320-family jets and seven A330-300s. In addition to the newly ordered A330neos, the airline has firm orders for 96 single-aisle A320neo aircraft, reaffirming its confidence in the European manufacturer.
Today, Vietjet already operates international flights to destinations such as Australia, India, and Kazakhstan using its A330-300s.
The A330neo: Efficiency, Range, and Comfort
Powered by state-of-the-art Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, the A330-900 boasts a range of up to 13,300 kilometers (7,200 nautical miles). It also features the award-winning Airspace cabin, offering passengers a superior travel experience with enhanced personal space, larger overhead compartments, advanced lighting, and cutting-edge entertainment and connectivity systems.
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus Executive Vice President of Commercial Aircraft Sales, remarked: “Vietjet has established itself as one of the fastest-growing airlines worldwide, combining low fares with warm Vietnamese hospitality. We are proud that they have chosen the A330neo to continue their expansion.”
