American Airlines continues to strengthen its presence at Miami International Airport (MIA) with an ambitious project that will transform the premium travel experience. The airline announced the construction of a new Flagship Lounge and the expansion of its Admirals Club, nearly doubling the VIP lounge space available to its customers at this key terminal.

An Investment in Customer Service

This initiative is part of American Airlines’ ongoing commitment to the Miami community. Heather Garboden, the company’s Chief Customer Officer, emphasized that the project aims to “expand and elevate the premium experience for our Flagship customers, while also providing a more spacious and relaxing environment in our Admirals Club lounges.” Collaboration with airport leaders and county officials has been instrumental in driving this improvement plan.

Renovation and Design Details

Currently, American Airlines operates three lounges at MIA: an Admirals Club® near gate D15 and a combined Flagship® and Admirals Club® space near gate D30. The strategy involves converting the existing Flagship® Lounge, opened in 2017, into an expanded Admirals Club®. Simultaneously, a new Flagship® Lounge will be built, maintaining the luxury and exclusivity standards these lounges are known for.

Premium amenities will include:

  • Champagne welcome
  • Locally inspired menus
  • À la carte dining service

American Airlines Launches Direct Flight Between Miami and Rome, Italy

Inspired by the Philadelphia Model

The MIA renovation draws inspiration from the recent opening of the Flagship® and Admirals Club® lounges at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), located in Terminal A West. Spanning 25,000 square feet, these lounges are the fifth of their kind in American’s global network and mark the airline’s ninth premium space.

Miami customers can expect a similar offering, with spaces designed to blend style, comfort, and functionality, following the “neighborhood” concept of distinct zones that provide unique experiences:

Highlighted Zones in the New Lounges:

  • Lounge: An area to relax and recharge.
  • Bar and Dining: A space to socialize or work while enjoying drinks or meals.
  • Villas: Spa-like suites with showers, workstations, and family rooms tailored for children.

Technology and Comfort for All Traveler Profiles

With business travelers in mind, the lounges will feature high-speed Wi-Fi, ample power outlets, and real-time flight information displays. Additionally, they will incorporate curated local artwork, high-end bathroom finishes, and family-friendly spaces designed to provide peace of mind for passengers traveling with children.

MIA: An International Gateway and Economic Pillar

Miami is American Airlines’ primary international gateway, boasting an industry-leading network to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Latin America. The airline employs over 14,500 people at MIA, making it the county’s largest private employer.

This summer, American is operating its largest flight schedule from MIA to date, reflecting its commitment to the region and its 35-year legacy as Miami’s hometown airline. Notable additions include the new service to Rome (FCO), launched this month, joining a network of 90 unique destinations served exclusively from Miami.

Lounge Access Options for Frequent and Occasional Travelers

American provides multiple ways to access its VIP lounge network:

For Admirals Club Lounges:

  • Admirals Club membership
  • Qualifying oneworld status
  • Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard®
  • One Day Pass purchase for $79 or 7,900 AAdvantage® miles

For Flagship Lounges:

  • AAdvantage® Platinum or higher members
  • oneworld® Emerald and Sapphire members on eligible international itineraries
  • Single Visit Pass available for $150 or 15,000 AAdvantage® miles

With these enhancements, American Airlines reinforces its position in Miami and redefines airport hospitality standards, offering spaces where comfort and attention to detail are the top priorities.
