United Airlines and Spotify announced a groundbreaking industry partnership this Thursday, transforming the in-flight travel experience. Starting now, the airline’s passengers can enjoy over 450 hours of free content directly from more than 130,000 seatback screens, many of which feature 4K quality and Bluetooth audio compatibility.
Spotify Takes to the Skies: Exclusive Content in the Air
For the first time, Spotify is offering audiobooks and video podcasts onboard an airline. United travelers will have access to over 65 curated titles, including popular shows like Good Hang with Amy Poehler, The Dave Chang Show, and The Comment Section with Drew Afualo.
Personalized In-Flight Experience
Beginning next year, passengers will be able to use their personal devices to connect to the Spotify app via the seatback entertainment screen. This will allow them to enjoy their favorite personalized content, resuming podcasts, music, and audiobooks right where they left off.

Beyond Entertainment: Technological Innovation
Spotify’s content is already available on more than 680 United aircraft under a new exclusive category in the entertainment menu labeled “Spotify.” This section replaces the previous “Audio” tab and includes channels such as Podcasts, Video Podcasts, Audiobooks, and Playlists. In the coming months, most aircraft will feature a dedicated channel to make accessing this content even easier.
Seamless Streaming Thanks to Starlink
On Starlink-equipped aircraft, passengers can access Spotify from their personal devices throughout the flight—from boarding to landing. They simply need to log in to their MileagePlus account and accept the terms of service to activate the feature and start streaming uninterrupted content.
Benefits for MileagePlus Members
As part of the launch, MileagePlus members who have never subscribed to Spotify Premium Individual can sign up and earn up to 1,000 bonus miles. Additionally, Spotify will collaborate with Kinective MediaSM by United Airlines, the industry’s first travel media network, to promote this offering across all stages of the traveler’s journey.
Passengers will see messages about this promotion on various United channels, including seatback screens, the airline’s app, United Club displays, emails, and more.
“Spotify has a massive audience, and people love its content. Now our customers can enjoy it simply and easily at 35,000 feet,” said Richard Nunn, CEO of MileagePlus. “Together, we’re offering millions of people a completely new way to access premium content from the world’s most popular artists, authors, and podcasters.”
Ian Geller, Vice President of Business Development at Spotify, added: “As a frequent United flyer, it’s exciting to see Spotify available on the world’s largest airline. We want to be where our users are and give creators new ways to connect with diverse audiences. I’m especially thrilled to bring an even more personalized experience to seatback screens next year.”
