KLM, the flagship airline of the Netherlands, has announced a significant expansion of its flight network for the peak season. This summer, the airline will operate flights to a total of 161 destinations worldwide, marking a notable 4% increase in seat capacity compared to the previous year. This effort is part of the airline’s strategy to meet growing passenger demand and offer travelers new options.
Summer Season: Expectations and Growth
During the months of July and August, KLM expects to carry approximately 6.4 million passengers. This figure is no coincidence, as the airline has experienced significant growth in key destinations, particularly in North America and Southern Europe. Notable increases include a 25% rise in seat capacity to Portugal and Croatia.
New Routes: KLM Expands
One of the most exciting updates for travelers is the introduction of six new routes this summer. For intercontinental flights, KLM has launched connections to San Diego (USA), Georgetown (Guyana), and Hyderabad (India), with the latter starting in September. Within Europe, new routes include Ljubljana, Exeter, and Biarritz.
Increased Frequencies to Popular Destinations
Passenger interest in both European and intercontinental destinations has prompted KLM to increase flight frequencies to several of its key locations.
INTERCONTINENTAL FLIGHTS
Tanzania: Starting this summer, KLM will offer a daily flight to Kilimanjaro/Dar es Salaam, up from the previous five weekly flights.
Las Vegas: The frequency will increase to a daily flight until August, compared to the previous five weekly flights.
Osaka: From late September, the route will expand to five weekly flights, with increased frequencies.
Tokyo Narita: The airline will add an additional weekly flight starting in late September.
Edmonton: During the peak season, flights will increase to six per week.
Cape Town: From October, two additional weekly flights will be added to this popular destination.
Curaçao: KLM will introduce an additional Sunday flight starting in October.
EUROPEAN ROUTES
Belfast: Now with two daily flights.
Porto: Increased to four daily flights.
Barcelona: An additional daily flight will be added.
Split: During spring and autumn, two daily flights will be offered.
Krakow and Poznan: Both will add an additional daily flight.
Milan Linate: KLM will consolidate all its Milan flights at Linate Airport, which is closer to the city center, discontinuing services to Malpensa to improve operational efficiency.
With these changes, KLM aims to enhance its global connectivity and meet passenger expectations for both comfort and a wider range of flight options.
