In a series of strategic moves, Delta Air Lines has announced significant upgrades for its flights between Nigeria and the United States. Starting July 1, passengers departing from Murtala Muhammed International Airport will enjoy a revamped space in Delta’s exclusive VIP lounge. Additionally, beginning in October, Delta’s flagship aircraft, the Airbus A350-900, will operate the Lagos-Atlanta route.
New VIP Lounge: A Premium Experience at Lagos Airport
The renovation of Delta’s VIP lounge at Murtala Muhammed International Airport is not just a change of location but a complete transformation of the passenger experience. This space, designed to offer greater comfort and privacy, features a contemporary design inspired by Nigerian culture. Passengers can relax in private seating areas, enjoy high-speed Wi-Fi, and indulge in a selection of premium refreshments. The new VIP lounge will be available to Delta One passengers, as well as key clients from the oil and gas sector—a strategic move that underscores the airline’s commitment to its high-profile customers.
More Advanced Aircraft
Delta has not only enhanced the ground experience but also upgraded its fleet. Starting in October 2025, the Airbus A350-900 will replace the Airbus A330-200 on the Lagos-Atlanta route, increasing capacity by 35%. This aircraft, one of the most technologically advanced in Delta’s fleet, promises a quieter flight experience, improved fuel efficiency, more spacious seating, and overall greater comfort.

During the peak holiday season between December and January, the Airbus A330-900neo will operate the highly sought-after Lagos-New York route. This aircraft also offers significant improvements in cabin pressure, humidity levels, and a smoother, more comfortable flying experience.
Luxury in the Air: Delta One Suites and Beyond
One of the standout features of Delta’s new aircraft is the exclusive Delta One Suites, which deliver a luxurious in-flight experience. These suites feature fully reclining seats, sliding doors for added privacy, premium bedding, and personalized high-end service.
But Delta goes beyond offering a premium experience in its Delta One class. Passengers in Delta Premium Select will enjoy extra space and elevated dining options, while those in Delta Main will benefit from individual entertainment systems, ambient lighting, and more personal space—all contributing to a more relaxing and enjoyable journey.
Technological Advancements and Comfort for All Passengers
In 2025, Delta will continue to provide fast, free Wi-Fi on all its transatlantic flights to West Africa and Europe, thanks to its partnership with T-Mobile, ensuring passengers stay connected throughout their flight. Additionally, both the Airbus A350-900 and A330-900neo are equipped with advanced air filtration systems, promoting a cleaner and healthier cabin environment during long-haul flights.
Joseph Young, Delta’s Managing Director for Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India, emphasized that the airline has been operating in Lagos for nearly 20 years, highlighting the strategic importance of this route. The introduction of these new services reflects Delta’s strong relationship with Nigeria and its long-term commitment to the region. With these infrastructure upgrades, Delta ensures passengers enjoy a more comfortable, efficient, and luxurious travel experience, solidifying its leadership in transatlantic connectivity between West Africa and the United States.
