Spirit Airlines announced on Tuesday its arrival at Key West International Airport with a new direct route to Fort Lauderdale, set to launch on November 6, 2025. This new connection represents the only direct flight option between the two cities—a strategic alternative poised to transform travel between South Florida and the Keys.
Flight Frequency and Planned Expansion
Initially, the airline will operate four weekly flights—on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays—with plans to increase to daily flights starting December 18, 2025. This decision reflects both Key West’s appeal as a tourist destination and the growing demand for more efficient and affordable transportation options in the region.
Introductory Fare Starting at $79
To celebrate the new route, Spirit has launched a promotional fare starting at $79 per one-way trip, available through its website. This offer is designed to encourage both residents and tourists to try the new direct service.
According to John Kirby, Vice President of Network Planning at Spirit Airlines, “Key West is a one-of-a-kind beach destination,” and this new service provides a faster, more convenient, and affordable alternative to the traditional road trip. Additionally, the new route will facilitate single-stop connections via Spirit’s hub in Fort Lauderdale, providing access to key cities such as Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, New York, Philadelphia, and others.
This network of connections positions Key West as a new tourist hub with national reach, increasing its visibility among both business and leisure travelers.
Eighth Spirit Destination in Florida
With this addition, Key West becomes Spirit Airlines’ eighth destination in Florida, joining Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Miami, Orlando, Pensacola, Tampa, and West Palm Beach.
This expansion strengthens the airline’s presence in Florida and reinforces its commitment to offering more options in the so-called “Sunshine State.”
