American Airlines Expands Its International Network: Announces New Routes for Summer 2026

American Airlines has unveiled an ambitious expansion of its international network for summer 2026, introducing new routes and significant upgrades to its premium flights to Asia. Starting August 11, 2025, travelers can book tickets for these new services on the airline’s website or via its mobile app.

New European Routes: Budapest and Prague Join American’s Network

On May 21, 2026, American Airlines will launch flights from Philadelphia to two new destinations: Budapest and Prague. This will be the only direct connection from the U.S. to the Hungarian capital, underscoring the airline’s commitment to providing greater access to Central Europe.

These new services will bring the total number of transatlantic destinations offered by American from its Philadelphia hub to 20 next summer, solidifying its position as a leading link between the U.S. and Europe. Passengers connecting through this airport can also enjoy the recently opened Flagship and Admirals Club lounges, featuring runway views, complimentary champagne, specialty coffee, local cuisine, and a full-service bar.

Athens, Milan, and Zurich: American Boosts Popular Traveler Routes

From Dallas Fort Worth, American will introduce seasonal service to Athens starting May 21, 2026, aboard a Boeing 787-8. This marks the airline’s fifth direct destination to Greece, making it the leader in nonstop flights from the U.S. to the country.

Additionally, from Miami, a new daily, year-round route to Milan will debut on March 29, 2026. This flight complements the existing service to Rome, strengthening American’s presence in Italy from its South Florida hub.

Zurich will also join the network with a seasonal flight from Dallas operating from May 21 to August 4, 2026, on a Boeing 777-200. This will be the only direct connection between the two cities during that period.

Buenos Aires Expands Its U.S. Connectivity

American is extending its Dallas Fort Worth-Buenos Aires route from May 21 to August 3, 2026, with four weekly flights on Boeing 787-8 aircraft. It will also increase capacity between Miami and Buenos Aires, offering up to three daily flights during the summer.

This adjustment aims to meet the expected demand for the world’s premier sporting event, as thousands of soccer fans travel to the U.S., particularly to Dallas-Fort Worth, one of the tournament’s host cities.

Premium Cabin Upgrades for Asia Flights

Interest in Asia is also being addressed with a 45% increase in premium seating capacity to Tokyo Haneda from Dallas and Los Angeles compared to summer 2025. Starting March 29, 2026, American will offer daily flights from Dallas on Boeing 777-300s and two daily flights from Los Angeles on Boeing 777-200s.

Passengers can look forward to an enhanced Business Class experience, featuring pajamas, restful bedding, chef-designed menus, award-winning wines, and snacks available throughout the flight. These upgrades will be available on all wide-body flights to East Asia, the Middle East, India, Australia, and New Zealand.

Brian Znotins, American Airlines’ Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning, stated: “Customers continue to tell us that Europe is their preferred summer destination, and these new routes make crossing the Atlantic in 2026 even easier. We’re excited to grow into destinations like Prague and Budapest and to offer more premium experiences on our flights to Tokyo.”

With these new routes and enhancements, American Airlines reinforces its position as a leader in international connectivity from the U.S., offering a diverse range of options for 2026 that cater to tourism, business, and major sporting events.
