▶ Copa Airlines Seeks to Expand in Buenos Aires: Requests Authorization to Fly to Aeroparque

Copa Airlines, through its subsidiary Copa Colombia, has requested authorization from Colombia’s Civil Aviation Authority to open an international route connecting several Colombian cities with Buenos Aires-Aeroparque, with a layover in Panama City.

The application includes flights from Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla, San Andrés, Pereira, and Bucaramanga to Jorge Newbery International Airport (Aeroparque), with a connection in the Panamanian capital. Through this strategy, the airline aims to expand its reach in one of the most competitive markets in the region.

According to the submitted documentation, the route would operate with a frequency of seven weekly flights—equivalent to one daily flight—using Boeing 737 aircraft, the backbone of the company’s fleet. Additionally, the application includes operations under fifth-freedom traffic rights.

If authorities approve the request, Copa Airlines would significantly increase its presence in the Argentine capital. The company currently operates five daily flights to Ezeiza International Airport.

The start of operations at Aeroparque would mark a strategic step: it is an airport closer to the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires, which improves connectivity and attracts more corporate and leisure travelers.
