Iberia has decided to significantly reinforce its operations with Puerto Rico, a market that continues to grow and has established itself as one of the most relevant within its Latin American network. Starting in September, the airline will gradually increase its frequencies between Madrid and San Juan. As of April 2026, it will maintain 12 weekly flights, representing the highest capacity in the more than 75 years it has been operating this route.
During February and March, exceptionally, Iberia will offer two daily flights, marking a milestone in connectivity between Europe and the Caribbean island.

Increased Capacity and New Aircraft
With this increase, the airline will exceed 650 daily seats on the Madrid–San Juan route. The route is currently operated with the Airbus A330-200, which has a capacity for 288 passengers. However, Iberia will also incorporate the Airbus A321XLR, the most modern single-aisle aircraft on the market. This model offers 188 seats distributed between Business and Tourist cabins, in addition to a reduction in emissions of more than 30% compared to wide-body aircraft.
Schedule of the New Flights
The two daily flights from Madrid will depart at 12:35 and 15:50, while the return flights from San Juan will leave at 18:10 and 21:25, enhancing schedule flexibility for passengers on both sides of the Atlantic.
Víctor Moneo, Global Sales Director of Iberia, highlighted the importance of this expansion: “It is a source of pride for Iberia to announce this new capacity increase with Puerto Rico, which is one of the routes experiencing the fastest growth in Iberia’s network. Without a doubt, this market is a focus for Europeans as one of their next destinations thanks to its great tourist attractions, while we have seen more and more Puerto Ricans deciding to cross the Atlantic to visit Spain and Europe.”
