Alaska Airlines Group announced on Thursday that it will convert part of its pending order for Boeing 787-9 aircraft into the larger 787-10 variant. This decision aligns with the strategy following the merger with Hawaiian Airlines, which is focused on accommodating growing traffic on high-density routes, particularly in the Pacific.
In an email statement to Reuters, the airline confirmed the order modification: “We can confirm we have converted some of our 787s to -10s. We will share more details, including the number and delivery timeline, soon,” Alaska Airlines stated.

The company did not specify how many aircraft will be changed to the different variant nor the exact delivery dates, but made it clear that this move aims to respond to the dynamism of the long-haul flight market.
The group currently operates 4 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, which are flown by Hawaiian Airlines.
