American Airlines Celebrates Arrival of Its 1,000th Mainline Aircraft: A Boeing 787-9

American Airlines has reached a key milestone in its history with the delivery of its 1,000th mainline aircraft. The Boeing 787-9, equipped with the exclusive Flagship Suite® seats, landed on August 29 at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW).

Heather Garboden, the company’s Director of Customer Care, emphasized: “We are excited to continue expanding our fleet by adding aircraft that offer our customers a premium travel experience. With an eye toward the next 100 years, our goal is to transform the travel experience both onboard and at every stage of the journey.”

Dreamliner Fleet Expansion

Since April, the airline has added eight Boeing 787-9 aircraft and has a total order of 30. The model currently operates strategic routes such as Chicago – London Heathrow, Chicago – Los Angeles, and Philadelphia – London Heathrow.

London: A Key Piece of the Strategy

With the addition of more Boeing 787-9s, the company will expand the Flagship Suite product to London in 2025. This November, a new direct service from Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) to Heathrow will be added, joining existing flights from Chicago and Philadelphia.

The Flagship Suite is designed to provide an experience of privacy and comfort, featuring seats with individual doors, wireless chargers, and an innovative chaise lounge design.

Premium cabin passengers enjoy:

New International Destinations

In the coming months, the Boeing 787-9 will offer the Flagship Suite experience on long-haul routes including:

  • Dallas/Fort Worth – Auckland
  • Dallas/Fort Worth – Brisbane
  • Dallas/Fort Worth – Buenos Aires
  • Philadelphia – Zurich

Fleet Count: Active Mainline and Regional Aircraft, and Outlook for New Deliveries

American Joins the Select Group of Airlines with Over 1,000 Aircraft

With this addition, American Airlines joins United Airlines on the list of airlines with a fleet exceeding 1,000 aircraft. Currently, United has 1,051 aircraft, according to Planespotters.
