Tocumen International Airport, the gateway to Panama and a benchmark for air connectivity in Latin America, recorded an accumulated traffic of 13,773,580 passengers between January and August 2025. This represents an 8% growth compared to the same period the previous year, equating to 1,006,497 additional travelers, solidifying its role as one of the most dynamic airports in the region.
August: A Record Month for Passenger Traffic
In August, the Panamanian terminal handled 1,851,451 passengers, with a daily average of 59,724 travelers. The days with the highest traffic flow were Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday.
Of that monthly total, 74% were transit or transfer passengers, accounting for 1,365,912 travelers.
Tourism on the Rise and Stability in International Departures
During the first eight months of the year, 1,882,031 visitors disembarked in Panama, representing a 4% increase compared to the same period in 2024, equivalent to 71,854 additional travelers.
In contrast, outbound passengers to international destinations reached 1,925,779, a figure that remained virtually stable compared to last year, with a slight variation of -529 users.

Growing Air Operations
This dynamism was also reflected in the number of flights. From January to August, 109,260 air operations were recorded, an 8% increase compared to 2024, meaning 7,864 additional flights.
In August alone, 14,279 operations were carried out, a 10% increase, with a daily average of 413 flights. The breakdown shows that:
- 90% were commercial flights.
- 7% were cargo flights.
- 2% were general aviation.
- 1% were special operations (charter, military, or technical).
Global Connectivity and Airlines
Currently, Tocumen operates with 15 passenger airlines and 15 cargo airlines, connecting to 86 international destinations across the Americas, Europe, and the Caribbean, reinforcing its strategic role in air transport.
Top Routes in August
The top 5 cities of origin and destination were led by Bogota with 698,487 passengers, followed by:
- San Jose (618,552)
- Miami (602,118)
- Medellin (578,026)
- Punta Cana (529,115)
Air Cargo: Another Expanding Engine
Cargo movement also recorded positive figures. Between January and August, 159,233 metric tons were transported, a 16% increase equivalent to 21,696 additional tons.
In August, the volume reached 20,958 metric tons, a 15% growth compared to the same month in 2024.
The airport’s General Manager, Jose Ruiz Blanco, highlighted the terminal’s economic and touristic impact: “Tocumen is not only the main gateway to Latin America; it is also a symbol of Panama’s commitment to innovation, connectivity, and service excellence. These results reflect the trust of millions of passengers and airlines that choose us every day, consolidating our role as a world-class regional hub.”
With sustained growth in passengers, operations, and cargo, Tocumen reaffirms its role as a strategic node for the region’s air transport, guaranteeing efficient, safe, and competitive service for travelers and businesses.
