Air Europa Launches New Emissions Compensation Program and Reinforces Its Commitment to Sustainability

Spanish airline Air Europa has taken a firm step in its environmental strategy with the launch of a new carbon footprint compensation program, developed in partnership with Chooose, a leading climate technology company specializing in emissions management platforms for the aviation sector.

This system accurately calculates emissions per passenger for each flight and offers, during ticket purchase, the possibility to voluntarily contribute an amount to finance environmental projects that balance the impact of the CO₂ generated.

The mechanism is simple and transparent. Users see the impact of their trip in real-time, the suggested compensation amount, and a direct link to make the contribution. Through this, Air Europa aims to actively involve passengers in environmental protection.

Projects in Mexico and Brazil: Environmental and Social Impact

The funds raised are directed to two compensation projects located in regions where the airline operates.

The first, in Mexico, promotes regenerative forest management and sustainable practices that naturally reduce carbon emissions, while also improving the living conditions of local communities.

The second, in Brazil, focuses on combating deforestation, reducing greenhouse gases, and fostering biodiversity conservation. Additionally, it has a key social component: improving the well-being of the populations living in the surrounding areas.

Integration with the Air Europa SUMA Program

The airline has incorporated this new functionality within its Air Europa SUMA loyalty program, offering Level Miles as an incentive to customers who participate in emissions compensation.

These miles help members reach or maintain their program tiers—SUMA Silver, SUMA Gold, and SUMA Platinum—an advantage that combines environmental responsibility with recognition for passenger loyalty.

Sustainability, a Pillar of Air Europa’s Strategic Plan

The company maintains sustainability as a central axis of its Strategic Plan, with actions aimed at advancing towards the decarbonization of air transport and optimizing its operations.

One of the pillars of this commitment is its fleet, unified around Boeing models like the 787 Dreamliner, recognized for its high fuel efficiency. The first two 737 MAX aircraft have already joined the fleet, with plans to incorporate two additional units before the end of the year.

Innovation to Reduce Consumption and Emissions

Air Europa uses advanced data analysis technology to determine the most efficient routes, minimizing fuel use.

Since last year, its pilots have had access to the OptiClimb application, which provides precise guidelines for reducing consumption during the climb phase of flights.

Furthermore, since 2023, the airline has been using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), ahead of European Union regulations that require at least 2% SAF on all flights operated from so-called “Union Airports.”

With this initiative, Air Europa reinforces its leadership in sustainability and sets a clear roadmap towards more responsible and transparent aviation.
