Discover Airlines, the leisure airline of the Lufthansa Group, is continuing its growth strategy with an ambitious expansion plan that will increase its fleet to 40 aircraft by mid-2028. As part of this process, the company has confirmed the addition of the Airbus A350-900, a state-of-the-art model that will become the new flagship of its long-haul fleet.
Airbus A350-900: Next-Generation Efficiency, Range, and Comfort
Starting in mid-2027, the airline will begin integrating four Airbus A350-900 aircraft, a plane renowned for its fuel efficiency, low noise levels, and lightweight structure primarily manufactured from composite materials.
Thanks to its range, this model will enable the operation of existing routes such as Windhoek and Orlando, and open new connections to South America, Central America, Southern Africa, and Southeast Asia – destinations that were not feasible with the existing fleet until now.
Furthermore, the A350’s cabin will offer greater passenger comfort with improved humidity levels and lower air pressure, thereby enhancing the onboard experience on long-duration flights.

Sustained Growth: 40 Aircraft by 2028
Currently, Discover Airlines operates 30 aircraft, split between 14 Airbus A330s and 16 Airbus A320s for short- and medium-haul routes.
The growth plan includes:
The addition of two more Airbus A320s in 2026, followed by another two by mid-2028, reaching a total of 20 A320s in its fleet.
In the long-haul segment, three Airbus A330-200s will be retired in 2026 and replaced by five Airbus A330-300s. This will bring the long-haul fleet to 16 aircraft by the end of that year, all of the A330-300 model.
From 2027 onwards, all A330s will be equipped with a new generation of cabins across all three classes.
Bernd Bauer, CEO of Discover Airlines, emphasized that this expansion represents a decisive step in strengthening the airline’s offering:
“With the development and expansion of our fleet – including the planned deployment of the Airbus A350 – we are reinforcing our proposition with more comfort and attractive options for our guests. More aircraft, greater range, and a new cabin product will allow us to respond even better to travelers’ needs. We look forward to being able to take more people on vacation in the future, while also contributing to the strengthening of the Lufthansa Group in the leisure and private travel segment. Now is the time to quickly create the conditions for integrating the Airbus A350 into our fleet.”
The introduction of the Airbus A350-900 marks a key evolution for Discover Airlines. With a modern, efficient fleet focused on passenger comfort, the company is consolidating its position within the international tourism market and reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and innovation in air transport.
