The British airline easyJet has announced an ambitious expansion plan in Morocco, which includes the opening of a new operational base in Marrakech starting in spring 2026. This initiative is part of a long-term strategic agreement with the Moroccan National Tourist Office, enabling it to offer a record 4 million seats in its first year of operation.
A Permanent Base and More Job Opportunities
The new base, which will have three permanently assigned aircraft and operate year-round, will create around one hundred direct jobs and thousands of indirect positions. With this move, easyJet will consolidate its second-place position in the Marrakech market and strengthen its presence across Morocco.
New Routes and Growth in Connectivity
The growth plan includes the launch of four new routes to Morocco, bringing the total to 46 connections with the country. Starting next summer, Hamburg, Lille, and Strasbourg will be connected to Marrakech, while Geneva-Tangier will be added as an exclusive route.

Frequencies and Start Dates
- Hamburg – Marrakech: Starting 1 May 2026, twice weekly (Tuesdays and Fridays).
- Lille – Marrakech: Starting 3 May 2026, twice weekly (Wednesdays and Sundays).
- Strasbourg – Marrakech: Starting 3 May 2026, twice weekly (Thursdays and Sundays).
- Geneva – Tangier: Starting 30 March 2026, twice weekly (Mondays and Thursdays).
Furthermore, several existing routes will see increased flight frequencies, strengthening the offering for both leisure and business travellers, as well as for those visiting friends and family in Morocco. These enhancements will also be reflected in the offerings from easyJet holidays, the group’s package holiday division.
Two Decades Connecting Europe with Morocco
With this expansion, easyJet will mark 20 years of operations in the African country, a period during which it has carried around 20 million passengers. Currently, the company operates 42 routes and serves five local airports: Marrakech, Agadir, Rabat, Essaouira, and Tangier.
easyJet CEO Kenton Jarvis highlighted the significance of this move: “I am pleased to announce this historic partnership and the creation of a new base in Marrakech. There is no doubt that Morocco is a key market for easyJet: we are the largest operator to the country from the UK and Switzerland. Furthermore, it is our fastest-growing market outside of Europe and an essential destination for our easyJet holidays customers.”
Jarvis added that the new base will allow the airline to expand its leisure and business offerings from more European destinations than ever before, while also freeing up capacity at slot-constrained European airports.
