Indian airline IndiGo has reached a new milestone in its international expansion with the launch of its first non-stop flight between Mumbai and London-Heathrow. This operation represents a key step in its strategy to build a solid and competitive global network in the long-haul segment.
A Direct Bridge Between Two Financial Hubs
The new daily service, operated with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, offers a two-class configuration: Economy and IndiGoStretch, the company’s premium product designed to provide greater comfort and personalized service.
Heathrow, one of the world’s most important and busiest airports, represents a strategic point on the global aviation map. Connecting Mumbai and London, two top-tier financial centers with deep cultural and economic ties, boosts connectivity between the two countries, traditionally characterized by a high volume of travelers for education, tourism, and family visits.

More Options for Passengers in India and the UK
With this new route, customers in India will be able to fly directly to London and access an extensive network of over 90 domestic destinations. In turn, travelers from the British capital will have a direct connection to major Indian cities through IndiGo’s network and its codeshare agreements.
IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers highlighted the significance of this launch: “We are delighted to announce the direct connection between Mumbai and London, two vibrant financial centers with deep cultural and economic bonds. This route is not just a new destination; it is a bridge between cultures, businesses, and families. It represents a defining moment in IndiGo’s journey towards becoming a truly global airline.”
Elbers added that the company’s goal is to make travel between India and the UK more accessible, seamless, and affordable, while maintaining the standards of efficiency and reliability that characterize the airline.
An Enhanced Long-Haul Experience
The launch of this route adds to IndiGo’s recent international expansion, which has included destinations such as Copenhagen, Amsterdam, and Manchester. On these long-haul flights, the airline offers a more comprehensive experience, with complimentary hot meals and beverages, alcoholic drinks available for purchase in Economy and complimentary in IndiGoStretch, plus individual screens with curated content and multiple amenities designed to ensure a comfortable journey.
