Arajet Inaugurates New Route Between Punta Cana and Chicago

The Dominican airline Arajet inaugurated its new direct route between Punta Cana and Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport this Saturday. This launch consolidates the airline’s growth in the United States, making Chicago its fifth operational destination in the country and reinforcing the Caribbean’s role as an air connection hub.

Manuel Luna, Head of Communication and Public Affairs for the airline, emphasized that flying to O’Hare Airport—one of the most significant globally—represents a major step forward in Arajet’s expansion. According to Luna, this connection opens new opportunities for travelers from Chicago to discover the beauty of Punta Cana and, from there, access other destinations in the region. Furthermore, he highlighted the value this route offers to the Dominican community residing in Chicago by providing a direct and affordable alternative for visiting their home country.

Frequency and Capacity of the New Route

The operation includes three weekly flights—Mondays, Tuesdays, and Saturdays—with an offering of more than 2,200 seats per week. This connection aims to serve both tourists and business travelers looking to explore Chicago or Punta Cana comfortably and economically.

Arajet Launches Flights to Orlando Sanford

The addition of this city to Arajet’s network is part of a strategy supported by data from the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Tourism. In 2024, over 138,000 tourists from Chicago traveled to the country by air, confirming the interest from the Midwest market and the significant presence of Dominican citizens in Illinois.

Regional Connections from Punta Cana

Beyond strengthening the link between the Dominican Republic and the United States, Arajet plans to use this new route as a connecting point to other destinations in Latin America. These include Buenos Aires and Córdoba in Argentina; Mexico City and Cancún in Mexico; Kingston in Jamaica; and Lima in Peru, thereby expanding regional connectivity possibilities for passengers transiting through Punta Cana.

This new route marks a firm step in consolidating Arajet as a relevant player in the continent’s commercial aviation sector, with a proposal that combines efficiency, accessibility, and strategic vision.
