Emirates and Air Canada have announced the extension and expansion of their strategic alliance, solidifying a partnership that, since 2022, has connected over 550,000 passengers across 56 shared routes between Canada, the United States, Dubai, and other key global destinations. The new agreement, formalized through a memorandum of understanding, extends their reciprocal cooperation on codesharing and loyalty programs until December 31, 2032.
Route Expansion and Benefits for Passengers and Cargo
The renewed agreement will enable:
- An expansion of the codeshare network, including new routes such as Toronto-Minneapolis, Montreal-Calgary, and Vancouver-Los Angeles, operated by Air Canada.
- Strengthened connectivity from Dubai to Toronto with Emirates’ A380 and to Montreal with the Boeing 777.
- An enhanced customer experience through priority benefits and operational coordination between both airlines.
- A joint transition to Dubai World Central (DWC) airport after 2032.

Furthermore, the possibility of opening new entry points in Canada within the shared network is being considered, which would increase travel options for users.
Loyalty and Global Access: Aeroplan and Skywards Integrate
The Aeroplan and Emirates Skywards loyalty programs have been key to this alliance. Members of both programs can:
- Earn and redeem points or miles on over 140 destinations served by Emirates and more than 220 served by Air Canada.
- Access Emirates’ Business Class lounges in Dubai, thanks to Air Canada’s relocation to Terminal 3 of the international airport.
- Enjoy cross-redemptions for Premium Economy cabins, an enhancement to be implemented soon.
Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Air Canada, emphasized that this renewal strengthens the airline’s international strategy and enhances connectivity with regions such as the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent, and Southeast Asia. For his part, Adnan Kazim, Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer at Emirates, underlined that the collaboration has yielded exceptional results for both passengers and cargo, and that the agreement will be a catalyst for new opportunities in Canada.
Both companies are also exploring the possibility of establishing a joint venture focused on cargo operations, aiming to optimize global freight transport.
