Several International Airlines Suspend Flights to Venezuela Following FAA Alert

Several international airlines announced the suspension of their operations to and from Venezuela this Saturday. Among the companies that canceled flights are Avianca, TAP Air Portugal, and the Brazilian carrier Gol.

The Spanish airline Iberia also communicated the cancellation of its services to Caracas starting Monday until further notice. However, the scheduled flight on Saturday from the Venezuelan capital to Madrid did manage to take off. A spokesperson for the company said that “the airline will assess the situation to decide when to resume flights to that country.”

Operations That Remained Active

Meanwhile, Copa Airlines, Wingo, Turkish Airlines, Air Europa, and Plus Ultra maintained their flights to Caracas this Saturday, guaranteeing continuity in their operations despite the uncertain context.

FAA Warning

The airlines’ decision came after an alert issued on Friday by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The agency warned of a “potentially hazardous situation” when flying through Venezuelan airspace.

The warning specifically refers to the Maiquetía Flight Information Region (SVZM), which covers a large part of the country’s air territory. According to the FAA, there are risks to aircraft in all phases of flight due to military maneuvers and unstable conditions.
