Copa Airlines announced a new operational update regarding its services to and from Venezuela, a decision that directly impacts thousands of passengers who use this route as one of the main air connection points in the region. The airline explained the technical reasons behind the measure and detailed the available alternatives for affected travelers.
Suspension of Operations Until January 15, 2026
The company reported that it has decided to extend the temporary suspension of its flights between Panama and Caracas until Thursday, January 15, 2026. This date is associated with the estimated full reopening of the main runway at Maiquetía International Airport, including the restoration of its Instrument Landing System, a key element for ensuring safe and regular operations.
According to Copa Airlines, the measure is in response to operational and safety criteria, with the well-being of both passengers and crew remaining the top priority.
Increased Frequencies to Cúcuta Due to High Demand
Given the characteristic travel demand of this time of year, the airline has chosen to increase the frequency of flights between Panama and Cúcuta, in Colombia. This border city with the state of Táchira, in Venezuela, becomes a relevant alternative for users needing to travel to or from Venezuelan territory during the suspension period.

This adjustment aims to offer greater capacity and flexibility to travelers, within the current limitations of the operational network.
Cargo Test Flight to Maracaibo
As part of the evaluation of operational alternatives, Copa Airlines reported that this Tuesday, December 16, 2025, its B737-800BCF cargo aircraft, registration HP-1990W, is conducting a test flight to La Chinita International Airport in Maracaibo, Venezuela.
This move is especially relevant, as the airline has not maintained regular flights to Maracaibo since July 2024, so the operation is part of a broader technical and logistical analysis.
Options Available for Passengers with Valid Tickets
Copa Airlines reminded passengers with flights scheduled up to the suspension date that they have several alternatives with no additional charges, designed to reduce the impact of the operational change.
Flexible Changes Without Penalties
Travelers can perform:
- Date change.
- Change of origin and/or destination within the same region, at no additional cost.
Credit for Future Travel
Cancellation of the trip is also available, retaining the full value of the ticket as a credit to be used at a later date.
Refunds Available
Those who prefer can request a refund for unused or partially used tickets. The corresponding procedures are handled directly through the official website www.copa.com.
Commitment to Safety and Official Information
The airline reiterated its commitment to the safety and well-being of all its users and crews. It also invited passengers with itineraries to or from Caracas to stay informed exclusively through Copa Airlines’ official channels, where future updates related to this temporary suspension will be published.
