Driven by robust growth in travel demand, Lufthansa Group has announced a significant expansion of its network to Japan for the Summer 2027 season. Under this schedule, the group’s network airlines will jointly operate up to 50 weekly flights, cementing its standing as the leading European airline group in the Japanese market by flight frequency.
Resumption of Frankfurt–Nagoya Route
Among the operational highlights, Lufthansa will reinstate seasonal nonstop service between Frankfurt Airport and Nagoya. The route will operate three times weekly, with flights scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays:
- Launch Date: March 29, 2027
- Flight LH736: Departs Frankfurt at 14:10, arriving in Nagoya at 09:35 the following day (local time).
- Flight LH737: Departs Nagoya at 11:30, arriving in the Rhine-Main metropolitan area at 18:30 (local time).
Nagoya stands as one of Japan’s key economic and industrial centers; Aichi Prefecture is renowned as the nation’s primary automotive and manufacturing hub. In addition, the city provides direct access to major cultural landmarks such as the former imperial capital of Kyoto. Through Lufthansa’s Frankfurt hub, passengers traveling from Nagoya will have seamless connections across numerous destinations in Europe and South America.

Additional Daily Tokyo-Narita Frequency and Allegris Deployment
Beginning March 28, 2027, the German carrier will introduce an additional seasonal daily flight between Frankfurt and Tokyo Narita International Airport, expanding travel options for both corporate and leisure passengers:
- Flight LH710: Departs Frankfurt at 13:45, arriving at Narita at 09:30 the following day (local time).
- Flight LH711: Departs Tokyo-Narita at 11:20, touching down in Frankfurt at 18:40.
This service will complement Lufthansa’s existing daily operations from Frankfurt and Munich to Tokyo Haneda International Airport.
Fleet and Cabin Configuration
Both routes (Nagoya and Tokyo-Narita) will be operated using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners fitted with the carrier’s state-of-the-art Allegris cabin interior, representing Lufthansa’s latest premium benchmark. The three-class cabin layout features:
- 28 Business Class seats
- 28 Premium Economy seats
- 231 Economy Class seats
SWISS Expansion and Group Footprint
Concurrently, Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) will ramp up capacity to Japan during the Summer 2027 schedule, offering up to seven weekly flights between Zurich and Tokyo-Narita.
In total, Lufthansa Group’s network airlines—Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, SWISS, and ITA Airways—will operate up to 50 weekly frequencies serving four key destinations across Japan:
- Tokyo-Haneda
- Tokyo-Narita
- Osaka
- Nagoya
Complementing this proprietary network are the extensive connectivity and booking options provided under the group’s commercial Joint Venture with Japanese carrier All Nippon Airways (ANA), further expanding routing flexibility across domestic and international segments.
Dieter Vranckx, Member of the Executive Board and Chief Commercial Officer at Lufthansa Group, emphasized that Japan represents a vital strategic market for the airline group. He noted that these investments bolster the group’s footprint, diversify its long-haul intercontinental network, and reaffirm its commitment to bridging people, cultures, and economies between Europe and Japan.
