This week, LEVEL began operating under the IATA code LL, a milestone that propels its growth and solidifies its position in the long-haul segment from Barcelona. This step confirms the completion of its operational autonomy process within International Airlines Group (IAG), after being launched in 2017 as a commercial brand managed by Iberia.
The transition towards this independence began with the acquisition of its Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) in December 2024. Throughout 2025, the company progressively obtained permits to fly to the United States, Argentina, and Chile, authorizations granted by the state authorities of each country it serves.
In June 2025, it achieved another milestone with IOSA Registration, an international recognition certifying compliance with the most demanding standards in safety and operational management, reinforcing its commitment to aviation excellence.
Flight LL2627 Marks the Official Start of the New Code
December 1st became a symbolic date for the airline. On that day, the first flight with the LL code took off: flight LL2627, connecting Barcelona with New York (JFK) at 18:45. This launch represented an operational leap and the visible confirmation of the company’s evolution towards fully autonomous management.
For passengers, the change will only be noticeable in bookings and official documents. From now on, every flight number will carry the “LL” identifier, an unmistakable sign of LEVEL’s identity as a fully independent airline.
Rafael Jiménez Hoyos, CEO of LEVEL, highlighted that this moment encapsulates a year of effort and collective commitment after obtaining the AOC. He emphasized that the company has demonstrated its ability to take on new challenges and strengthen long-haul operations from Barcelona, offering an accessible, customizable, and competitive experience.
A Year of Accelerated Growth
LEVEL’s progress is also reflected in its internal structure. In the last twelve months, its workforce increased by 750%, incorporating its own flight crews and strengthening key areas to face this new stage with greater efficiency and agility in response to industry challenges.
At the same time, the company maintained its leadership in long-haul operations from Barcelona during 2025, with a 16% market share at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat Airport. Its expansion plan aims to consolidate an efficient, innovative, and customer-focused operation, reaffirming its commitment to connecting Barcelona with the world through direct and non-stop routes.
A Culturally-Infused Callsign: “Dalí”
In operational terms, LEVEL has adopted a new radio callsign that pays tribute to Catalan cultural heritage. The airline will use the callsign “Dalí”, a choice that underscores its link to Catalonia and the city of Barcelona. This gesture reinforces its intention to project its local identity internationally and maintain a strong connection to its roots.
