Air Europa has officially confirmed its firm order to incorporate up to 40 Airbus A350-900 aircraft into its fleet. The announcement was made on Thursday at Fitur, one of the most significant institutional showcases for the Spanish tourism and aeronautical sectors, reinforcing the airline’s message that it aims to play a central role in intercontinental traffic, particularly towards Latin America.

The event was led by Juan Jose Hidalgo, President of Air Europa, together with Ville Arhippainen, Head of Sales for Western Europe at Airbus, highlighting the strategic and bilateral nature of an agreement that goes far beyond a simple fleet addition.

An Agreement Signed in December, Cementing the Dubai MoU

The definitive order was signed in December of last year, finalizing the process initiated with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the Dubai Airshow. This step turns the initial intention into a contractual commitment that serves as the cornerstone of Air Europa’s long-haul fleet renewal project.

The airline presents this agreement as the best guarantee to support its expansion plan, relying on an aircraft that combines advanced technology, operational efficiency, and a high standard of passenger comfort.

The A350-900 as Backbone of Long-Haul Operations

Focus on Latin America, the Key Market

The Airbus A350-900 will allow Air Europa to continue strengthening its value proposition on routes to Latin America, which form the most distinctive core of its intercontinental network. The airline particularly highlights the model’s capacity for both passengers and air cargo, a critical factor in the profitability of current long-haul operations.

This is complemented by operational performance described as exceptional, aligning with the quality standards the company claims it already offers its customers.

Technical Performance and Intercontinental Range

Designed to cover distances of up to 9,700 nautical miles (18,000 kilometers) non-stop, the A350-900 provides Air Europa with a platform capable of operating ultra-long-haul routes with operational flexibility, opening doors both to consolidating existing markets and to potential future expansion.

Efficiency, Sustainability, and Cost Reduction

One of the pillars of the A350 program is its structural efficiency. The aircraft combines a state-of-the-art aerodynamic design, extensive use of lightweight materials, and next-generation Rolls-Royce engines, which translates into concrete figures:

  • 25% reduction in fuel consumption
  • Equivalent reduction in operating costs
  • Lower carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions

Furthermore, like other Airbus models, the A350 is certified to operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), a key element in the regulatory and environmental context facing European commercial aviation.
