Binter continues to expand its point-to-point connectivity model from the Canary Islands. At the Madrid International Tourism Fair (FITUR), the airline announced the launch of a new direct route between Lanzarote and Santander, which will begin operating on March 31. This move is significant both strategically and operationally, as it becomes the company’s first domestic route from a non-capital island.
The announcement strengthens Binter’s position as a key player in air connectivity between the Canary Islands and mainland Spain, and underscores its ability to tap into markets beyond the archipelago’s traditional hubs.
Operational Details of the New Route
The direct connection between Lanzarote and Santander will have two weekly frequencies, operating on Tuesdays and Saturdays. With this addition, Binter not only adds a new city pair to its network but also significantly boosts the total offering between the Canary Islands and Cantabria.
According to data provided by the company, the new route will enable an increase of over 40% in available capacity between the two regions compared to the summer 2025 season. This growth is supported by a network structure combining direct flights and connections via other islands.

Daily Frequency Between the Canary Islands and Santander
With the launch of the flight from Lanzarote, connectivity between the Canary Islands and Santander will be configured with daily frequency, distributed as follows:
- Tenerife: Monday and Wednesday
- Lanzarote: Tuesday and Saturday
- Gran Canaria: Thursday, Friday, and Sunday
This schedule solidifies a sustained presence in the Cantabrian market, offering flexibility for tourist, corporate, and VFR (visiting friends and relatives) traffic.
Onboard Experience as a Differentiator
Beyond its network, Binter used its presence at FITUR to reinforce another pillar of its value proposition: differentiated onboard service. The airline officially presented its new menus, which will come into effect on March 1, 2026, on all its domestic and international flights.
More Canarian Products and a Healthy Focus
The complimentary new menus have been enhanced to include more Canarian brands and products, with an approach focused on offering more balanced and healthy snacks. The presentation was led by Patricia Hernandez, Inflight Experience Manager at Binter, along with Silvia Fernandez, nutritionist at Greenfooding.
The event also included the participation of institutional representatives and agri-food sector stakeholders, including Narvay Quintero, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Food Sovereignty of the Government of the Canary Islands; Aitor Marcos, Commercial Director of Gestión del Medio Rural Canarias (GMR); and Edgar Sabina, an expert wine consultant, who conducted a tasting of the wines that will be incorporated into the onboard service.
Gastronomy with Local Identity
The new culinary offering maintains a clear Canarian identity, even in its naming. The menus include references such as Danza de los enanos, sirinoque, tajaraste, sorondongo, or folias, reinforcing the concept of a travel experience connected to the local culture.
Among the main novelties are:
- New salads in the gourmet snacks, with Canarian-inspired recipes.
- Renewed breakfasts, featuring sandwiches with a variety of fillings.
- Incorporation of artisanal products such as chocolate balls or truffles, gofio, and millo.
Specific Improvements for Younger Passengers
Binter also updated its BinterPeques offering, with children’s menus that now include fresh fruit or Sandra Greek yogurt, as well as new filled burritos tailored to children’s tastes. This adjustment aligns with the family orientation of much of the airline’s inter-island and mainland traffic.
The new route represents a clear signal of Binter’s strategy: diversify origin points in the Canary Islands, strengthen secondary mainland markets, and complement that growth with a carefully differentiated onboard product.
