WestJet and Virgin Atlantic Expand Loyalty Agreement: Enhancing Benefits, Rewards, and Connectivity for Travelers

WestJet and Virgin Atlantic have expanded their loyalty agreement, allowing members of WestJet Rewards and the Virgin Atlantic Flying Club to earn points across both airlines’ entire networks, including codeshare flights. This measure takes effect immediately and represents a significant step forward in the commercial evolution of both companies across the transatlantic corridor.

Strategic Significance of the Toronto–London Route

This announcement is particularly relevant for WestJet passengers utilizing the Toronto–London Heathrow route operated by Virgin Atlantic. This corridor is a key artery for thousands of Canadian travelers connecting through Toronto Pearson to the British airline’s primary hub at London Heathrow.

John Weatherill, Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer at WestJet, emphasized that strengthening the relationship with Virgin Atlantic increases connectivity and expands earning and redemption opportunities within the WestJet Rewards program. This allows travelers to maximize the value of every trip.

On the other hand, Juha Jaervinen, Chief Customer Officer at Virgin Atlantic, highlighted that the partnership continues to solidify, offering Flying Club members greater flexibility when traveling between Canada, the United Kingdom, and other international destinations.

Expanded Redemption and Integrated Booking

In addition to expanded point accumulation, WestJet Rewards members can continue to use their points as a form of payment for WestJet-marketed flights operated by Virgin Atlantic, which are now available for direct booking on WestJet.com.

More Destinations via London Heathrow

This integration includes WestJet-marketed flights connecting through London Heathrow to the following destinations:

The ability to redeem points for these destinations bolsters the international reach of WestJet’s loyalty program, particularly in long-haul markets with strong corporate and premium tourism sectors.

Enhanced Capacity: Toronto–London Market

Parallel to the expansion of loyalty benefits, Virgin Atlantic confirmed a capacity increase on the Toronto–London route. For the summer season, the airline will operate daily flights using its Airbus A350-1000, which features 397 seats.

The deployment of the A350-1000—the largest aircraft in Virgin Atlantic’s fleet—reinforces the commitment to the Canadian market as the airline approaches the first anniversary of its return to Toronto.

A Comprehensive Partnership

The expanded cooperation between WestJet and Virgin Atlantic goes beyond a simple update of benefits. It integrates networks, strengthens the value proposition in the Canada–UK corridor, and extends reach toward key intercontinental destinations via London.
