New York-based Atlas Air Worldwide, a global leader in air cargo logistics, has finalized a firm order for 20 Airbus A350F freighters. This transaction represents the largest contract to date for this next-generation model, positioning the American company as the premier customer for the aircraft type worldwide.
Strategic Expansion and Global Cargo Leadership
The deployment of these new units is geared toward the company’s operational growth. As a specialist in outsourced aviation logistics services, Atlas aims to integrate the cutting-edge performance of the A350F to support global operators across diverse business models and markets.
Michael Steen, CEO of Atlas, highlighted that this order secures early delivery slots, allowing the company to maintain a modern, fuel-efficient widebody fleet.

Technical Innovation and A350F Capabilities
The Airbus A350F has been designed to optimize the most demanding cargo operations through the following technical specifications:
- Main Deck Cargo Door: It features the largest main deck cargo door in the aviation industry.
- Optimized Capacity: The fuselage length and capacity have been structured around industry-standard pallets and containers.
- Advanced Materials: More than 70% of the aircraft’s airframe is composed of advanced materials.
- Weight Efficiency: Thanks to its design, the aircraft is 46 tonnes lighter in its maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) compared to derivative models from the competition.
Sustainability and Regulatory Compliance
A decisive factor in selecting this model is its environmental profile. The A350F is currently the only freighter that will fully comply with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) CO₂ emission standards, which will be strictly enforced starting in 2027.
This feature ensures the operational longevity of the Atlas fleet in the face of increasing global environmental regulations.
The addition of Atlas to the Airbus family marks the first time a United States (U.S.) operator has selected the A350F. Lars Wagner, CEO of Commercial Aircraft at Airbus, described the agreement as a “pivotal moment” that consolidates the A350F as the preferred next-generation freighter.
