As of April 1, the Miles & More frequent flyer program will officially become the loyalty scheme for ITA Airways. This move represents a fundamental step in the Italian carrier’s integration strategy within the Lufthansa Group’s commercial structure, allowing its passengers to access a global network of benefits, exclusive services, and rewards from their very first kilometer flown.
Strategic Integration as a “Hub Airline”
The incorporation of ITA Airways into Miles & More is not merely a change in loyalty programming; it is a cornerstone of its consolidation as a central “Hub Airline” within the German group. According to Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of the Lufthansa Group, this strategic decision allows the Italian company to leverage a program with global reach, strengthening its competitive position and generating immediate synergies for its worldwide customer base.
With this step, the airline is deeply integrated into the parent company’s commercial machinery, ensuring its operations align with the service and connectivity standards that characterize the group.
Program Benefits and Passenger Reach
Starting on the effective date, users will be able to register for the program directly through the airline’s web portal and mobile application. Direct benefits include:
- Access to a Global Network: Members will be able to earn and redeem miles across the 35 airlines that make up the program’s network, as well as all Star Alliance member carriers.
- Partner Ecosystem: Beyond flights, the program features more than 135 additional partners, including renowned hotel chains, car rental companies, and various consumer and retail brands.
- Flexible Redemption: Accumulated miles can be redeemed for award flights, flight upgrades, selected products, and various travel-related services.

Transition and Status for Current Customers
To ensure a smooth and attractive transition, specific mechanisms have been designed for recurring customers:
- Status Match: For those ITA Airways passengers who already hold a status level in their previous program, a “Status Match” offer will be published, allowing them to maintain their privileges within Miles & More.
- Points Accumulation: New members can begin earning “Points” to reach or maintain frequent flyer status levels within the Lufthansa Group ecosystem.
- Benefits for Existing Members: The current 39 million Miles & More members will also benefit, as they will be able to earn and use their miles across the Italian airline’s entire route network.
The partnership between both entities is expected to expand throughout the year with additional offers, consolidating ITA Airways as a key player in European connectivity under the backing of the Lufthansa Group.
