Star Alliance has rolled out its ninth global Star Connection Centre (SCC) at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The facility aims to streamline transfers for over 350,000 annual passengers connecting between member airlines at this strategic hub.
Optimizing Passenger Experience at LAX
The opening of this new SCC reinforces the alliance’s commitment to providing seamless multi-airline travel. Los Angeles has established itself as one of the most critical transfer points for the organization’s global network, facilitating the transit of hundreds of thousands of travelers each year.
The primary purpose of the SCC is to provide proactive support to passengers with tight connection windows. Utilizing specialized software, dedicated teams monitor transfer windows and identify customers at risk of missing their next flight due to arrival delays, allowing for expedited passage to the next aircraft.
Operationality and Technical Coordination
Behind the travel experience lies comprehensive logistical coordination among the alliance’s member airlines. The operation of these centers is based on:
- Real-time Monitoring: Dedicated agents oversee itineraries to detect potential disruptions.
- Personalized Assistance: Ground staff meet passengers directly at the arrival gate to guide them swiftly to their subsequent departure.

Star Alliance has over a decade of experience operating these connection centers, which manage not only passenger transit but also baggage transfers at key hubs.
Currently, the SCC network is distributed as follows:

- Asia and Oceania: Air China, Air New Zealand, ANA, Asiana Airlines, EVA Air, and Singapore Airlines.
- Latin America: Avianca and Copa Airlines.
Combined, these carriers operate more than 2,000 weekly flights from LAX, connecting to over 80 destinations in more than 20 countries, highlighting the importance of implementing passenger flow management tools at this airport.
