Florida Approves Bill to Rename Palm Beach Airport in Honor of Donald Trump
Florida lawmakers approved a bill this week to rename Palm Beach International Airport as the President Donald J. Trump International Airport.
The initiative has already cleared the State Senate and now moves to Governor Ron DeSantis for his signature. Following the Governor’s approval, the change will require authorization from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). If both steps are completed, the name change is set to take effect in July.
Trademark Protection and Branding
This announcement comes shortly after the Trump Organization filed applications with the federal trademark office to secure exclusive rights to the former president’s name for use in airports and various associated products and services.
The organization maintained that it is not seeking financial gain through this move. Instead, they argue the filing is a defensive measure against “bad actors,” claiming that the Trump surname is the “most infringed brand in the world”.

The approved bill establishes several specific parameters:
- State Authority: The project grants the state the power to name major airports throughout Florida.
- Limited Scope: Legislators opted to keep the names of Florida’s other six major commercial airports unchanged, modifying only the facility in West Palm Beach, which is located near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence.
- Legal Status: A relevant technical point is that the law defines airport names as “branding designations”.
- Administrative Impact: This specific classification means the change does not require the creation of new legal entities, a critical detail for administrative and regulatory efficiency.

The rebranding process for the West Palm Beach airport—which includes updating signage, corporate identity, and other associated elements—carries an estimated cost of up to $5.5 million. This figure covers the physical implementation of the new name across all facilities and official materials.
