Aer Lingus Launches Direct Dublin to Raleigh-Durham Route Using Airbus A321XLR

Aer Lingus commenced operations this Monday between Dublin Airport and Raleigh-Durham International Airport, establishing a strategic connection linking the state of North Carolina with Ireland and the rest of Europe.

Transatlantic Connectivity and the “Research Triangle”

The new direct service bolsters connectivity with North Carolina’s Research Triangle, an innovation hub encompassing the cities of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. This region is home to Research Triangle Park, one of the largest research parks in the world and headquarters to hundreds of technology and biotechnology companies.

Furthermore, the area is renowned for its prestigious academic institutions, including North Carolina State University (Raleigh), Duke University (Durham), and the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill.

Aer Lingus’ Strategic Expansion

The addition of Raleigh-Durham is a cornerstone of Aer Lingus’s expansion strategy. Lynne Embleton, the airline’s CEO, emphasized that the route will foster business and educational ties on both sides of the Atlantic.

For her part, Tammie Hall-Roberts, Chair of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority Board, noted that Dublin is one of the most requested international destinations by travelers in the region.

With the upcoming launch of a route to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, next month, Aer Lingus will increase its total number of routes between Ireland and North America to 24, consolidating its position in the transatlantic market.
