Ryanair has announced its Summer 2026 schedule for the Balearic Islands, increasing connectivity through the launch of three new routes from Palma de Mallorca and increased frequencies across key destinations. This expansion comes amid sectoral tensions following a proposed fee hike by Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea (AENA).

Operational Expansion in Palma, Ibiza, and Menorca

The airline will strengthen its presence in the Balearic archipelago with an offering designed to meet high demand from both domestic and international visitors. Growth is distributed across the main islands as follows:

Palma de Mallorca

Ryanair will operate a total of 79 routes from Palma, reaching 715 weekly frequencies—a 2% increase compared to the previous year. Key highlights of this base include:

New Connections: Routes to Friedrichshafen (Germany), Gdansk (Poland), and Malta are being added.
Additional Flights: Increased frequencies to popular destinations such as Naples, Warsaw, and Zagreb.
Investment: Operations are supported by 16 aircraft based in Palma, representing a $1.6 billion investment and supporting over 6,900 local jobs.

In Ibiza, the carrier will operate 33 routes and 226 weekly flights, marking an 8% growth this summer. Additional capacity has been added to strategic connections with:

The schedule for Menorca includes 18 routes with a total of 90 weekly frequencies, maintaining the island’s connectivity with mainland Spain and various European points.

Airport Fee Dispute

Despite the announced growth, Ryanair has expressed its firm opposition to AENA’s proposal to increase airport charges by 21% over a five-year period. According to the airline, these policies are “highly damaging” and solely benefit the management entity’s monopoly.

Alejandra Ruiz, Ryanair’s spokesperson in Spain, warned that the rise in operating costs could jeopardize future connectivity. The airline pointed out that the increase projected for 2031 would force a shift in flight capacity toward lower-cost airports in other European regions, directly impacting tourism and employment in Spain. In response, Ryanair has urged the National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC) and the Ministry of Transport to intervene and reduce fees.
