Low-cost carrier Wingo has revealed its strategic expansion plan for the second half of 2026, highlighting the activation of special operations to Porlamar and a technical evaluation to add a new Venezuelan city to its scheduled route network. This initiative seeks to consolidate air mobility between Colombia and Venezuela, leveraged by sustained demand and a load factor that exceeds regional standards.
Special Operations to Porlamar, Margarita Island
As part of its strategy for the mid-year peak travel season, Wingo confirmed it will operate charter flights on the Bogota-Porlamar-Bogota route. These special operations will take place between June 22 and July 22, with subsequent plans to extend the service from the city of Medellin.
Jorge Jiménez, the company’s Commercial and Planning Vice President, specified that these flights to the state of Nueva Esparta will follow a specific distribution scheme:
- Exclusive Commercialization: Tickets will be sold solely through travel agencies.
- Objective: To strengthen the tourism supply chain and foster passenger flow between both nations.

Regular Network Expansion: Three Cities Under Evaluation
Beyond seasonal operations, the airline is preparing to integrate a second Venezuelan city into its scheduled direct flight scheme. Currently, Wingo’s technical team is conducting an in-depth analysis of three strategic options for connectivity with Colombia: Maracaibo, Valencia, and Barquisimeto.
The final selection, to be announced in the coming weeks, is based on a rigorous analysis of four fundamental pillars:
- Passenger demand and growth potential.
- Attractiveness for binational tourism.
- Facilitation of family reunifications.
- Opportunities for business travel.
Consolidation of the Binational Market and Operational Figures
The decision to expand its offering is supported by the solid operational performance Wingo has maintained in the Venezuelan market. Since the start of its operations in 2017, the airline has transported more than 320,000 passengers between the two countries.
Currently, the company maintains a load factor exceeding 82%, operating the following routes on a scheduled basis:
- Bogota – Caracas: One daily flight, totaling seven weekly frequencies.
- Medellin – Caracas: Three weekly flights, operated on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
With the incorporation of the newly selected destination, Wingo positions itself as a key player in the restoration of air connectivity, offering efficient alternatives for both Venezuelan and Colombian travelers.
