Malaysian carrier Berjaya Air has marked a milestone in regional aviation by taking delivery of the world’s first ATR 72-600 aircraft equipped with the exclusive ATR HighLine “All-Business Class” cabin configuration. This “affordable luxury” travel concept combines the comfort of semi-private flights with the operational efficiency of turboprops.
Certification and Operational Debut in Southeast Asia
ATR’s new cabin concept recently secured the relevant certifications from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Malaysian aviation authorities, validating its suitability for global commercial operations.
Berjaya Air plans to launch operations with this aircraft within the coming days. Its initial route network and expansion plans include:
- Launch Route: Connecting Subang Airport (Malaysia) with the island of Koh Samui (Thailand).
- Regional Network Expansion: Direct flights to key destinations in Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
- Strategic Focus: Connectivity tailored to the Berjaya Group’s portfolio of hotels and resorts, ensuring an integrated premium experience to island destinations such as Redang and Langkawi.
- Charter Market: The aircraft will be available for charter services throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

Interior Design Innovation: Space and Comfort Onboard
The ATR HighLine configuration completely transforms the standard turboprop passenger experience, reducing seating density to maximize personal space and replicate the environment of the world’s largest private jets.
Seating Layout and Ergonomics
The cabin features a completely customized 1-1 layout, with a capacity to carry only 26 passengers. This distribution ensures that every passenger has direct aisle access and a direct view through multiple windows. The selected seats are the ETEREA model, handcrafted by the firm Geven. These seats are the widest ever installed on an ATR platform and include a refined personal side console with integrated storage.
Cabin Brightness and Volume
One of the most significant design changes is the removal of the overhead bins, which have been replaced by stylized valence panels. This structural modification allows for greater natural light entry and significantly expands the perceived interior volume, while maintaining the fuel efficiency levels characteristic of the ATR regional platform.
“The delivery of the world’s first ATR 72-600 in the ATR HighLine configuration is a fundamental step in the transformation of Berjaya Air. This cabin experience allows us to offer guests a refined, seamless journey to some of the region’s most sought-after destinations, while maintaining our steadfast commitment to operational efficiency and service excellence,” said Syed Ali Shahul Hameed, Group CEO of Berjaya Property Berhad.
For her part, Nathalie Tarnaud Laude, CEO of ATR, highlighted the manufacturer’s versatility in adapting to new market niches:
“This milestone demonstrates how the ATR family continues to evolve to meet changing market expectations. The ATR HighLine cabin collection opens up new possibilities for operators seeking exceptional onboard comfort, while leveraging all the operational and efficiency advantages of the aircraft.”
Next Steps
Berjaya Air’s modernization and premium positioning strategy will continue to expand in the near term. The airline is scheduled to take delivery of a second factory-direct ATR 72-600 unit, configured with the exact same “All-Business Class” layout, during the third quarter of this year.
