Colombia’s aviation sector maintains a steady growth rate during the first four months of 2026, driven by robust domestic demand and growing international connectivity. With a constant increase in both passenger traffic and cargo transport, the country reaffirms the expansive trajectory of its aviation market.

Passenger Traffic: The Domestic Market Leads Expansion

According to official figures provided by the Analytics Office of the Civil Aviation Authority of Colombia (Aerocivil), between January and April 2026, 19.6 million people traveled by air nationwide. This volume represents a 7.7% increase in overall passenger traffic compared to the same period last year.

When analyzing monthly performance on a standalone basis, the industry’s growth becomes evident:

  • April Results: During April 2026 alone, the country’s airports registered the transit of 4.6 million passengers.
  • Net Increase: This figure represents 202,000 more people compared to the same month in 2025, marking a 4.6% rebound.

Dynamism of Domestic and International Routes

The domestic market has been the main driver of this expansive trend, posting solid 8.1% growth during the first four months of 2026. Airlines experienced highly positive dynamics, reflected in significant demand increases on traditional routes, as well as on operations connecting the urban hubs of Bogota, Medellin, and Cali with key destinations such as San Andres and Monteria.

Meanwhile, the international passenger market was not far behind, showing a positive variation of 7.1% over the same cumulative period. International destinations with the highest increase in demand notably included:

  • Mexico.
  • The Dominican Republic.
  • Brazil.
  • Various Caribbean islands.
  • Guatemala.

Likewise, inbound international passenger traffic showed dynamic behavior, with the most active visitors originating from Spain, Mexico, Argentina, and Chile.

Air Cargo: Consolidation of Logistics Flows

The transport of goods by air has also shown outstanding performance so far this year, consolidating Colombia’s logistics position in the region. In cumulative terms between January and April 2026, the total volume of cargo and mail transported reached 338,887 metric tons, equivalent to a 4.3% growth compared to the first four months of the previous year.

During the single month of April 2026, 94,754 tons of cargo and mail were moved by air. This represented an increase of 2,908 tons compared to the same month in 2025, a 3.2% uptick.

Balance of International and Domestic Cargo Markets

The international cargo segment was a key pillar in these results, posting an increase of 12,056 tons (+4.3%) in the first four months of the year, for a total of 291,677 tons moved. This robust performance evidences the stabilization of air freight during 2026. The commercial flow was distributed as follows:

  • Exports: Cargo originating in Colombia accounted for 64% of the total, with the United States as the primary destination country.
  • Imports: Goods entering the country originated mostly from the United States, Brazil, and Spain.

In parallel, the domestic cargo market maintained its own steady growth path. During the first four months of 2026, the domestic movement of goods and mail reached 47,210 tons, recording a positive variation of 3.9% compared to the same period in 2025.

Data from the first four months of 2026 confirm that the aviation industry in Colombia is undergoing a period of solid expansion in both the passenger and cargo segments.
