Lufthansa Group has approved the acquisition of 20 new long-haul aircraft, split evenly between the Airbus A350-900 and Boeing 787-9 models. Deliveries are scheduled to take place between 2032 and 2034. This strategic investment aims to accelerate fleet modernization and enhance the group’s operational sustainability heading into the next decade.
According to Carsten Spohr, Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, this order represents a clear commitment to premium quality and environmental impact reduction. The integration of next-generation technology ensures these aircraft are:
- More fuel-efficient compared to their predecessors.
- Significantly quieter, reducing the noise footprint at airports.
- Lower emission, contributing directly to the reduction of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) output.
The addition of the A350-900 and 787-9 will allow the company to retire older, less efficient models starting in 2032. Decisions regarding which group airline will operate the aircraft and at which hub they will be deployed will be determined at a later date.
With this new agreement, the Lufthansa Group order book rises to a total of 232 next-generation aircraft. Of this figure, 107 are long-haul models, positioning the company to meet global market challenges with one of the most modern and competitive fleets in the industry.
