Commercial aviation activity in Argentina has reached a historic milestone during the first five months of 2026, recording its highest-ever levels of passengers and aircraft movements for this period. This sustained growth is driven by enhanced domestic connectivity, the introduction of new routes, and the arrival of international operators in the country.
Record-Breaking Figures for January-May
According to official data from the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC), the period between January and May 2026 has established itself as the busiest ever for Argentina’s commercial aviation sector. Key indicators show robust growth compared to previous historical records:
- Passenger Traffic: A total of 21,413,752 passengers traveled through the country’s airports, representing a 3% increase over the previous record of 20,764,122 passengers set during the same period in 2025.
- Aircraft Movements: A total of 167,136 operations were recorded, surpassing by 1% the benchmark of 165,966 movements reached between January and May last year.
The month of May contributed significantly to securing this historic result, generating a volume of 3,510,181 passengers and 28,097 aircraft movements across the national airport network.

Consolidation of Domestic and International Markets
Growth has been strategically distributed across both domestic routes and international connections, strengthening air transport infrastructure throughout the territory.
Strategic Role of the Domestic Market
In the domestic segment, 13,641,352 airport passengers were recorded during the first five months of the year. These figures consolidate the strategic role of the internal network in ensuring integration and efficient connectivity across the country’s diverse regions.
International Boost and Regional Decentralization
For its part, the international market delivered an outstanding performance, reaching the highest figures ever recorded for a five-month period:
- 7,772,400 international passengers were reported.
- 51,179 international movements were executed.
A key highlight of this performance is the strengthening of regional connectivity without the need to centralize operations in Buenos Aires. During the month of May, 186,334 passengers traveled abroad directly from airports in the country’s interior provinces. This traffic volume reflects a clear trend of sustained growth from the provinces:
- A 22% increase compared to 2025.
- A 61% increase compared to 2024.
- A 97% expansion compared to 2023.
New Routes and International Operators in May
The expansion of airline capacity and the arrival of new market players have been fundamental to the sector’s dynamism. During May, key options were added for travelers:
- Plus Ultra: Launched scheduled flights on the Madrid–Buenos Aires route, adding a new direct connectivity option with the European continent.
- Arajet: Commenced operations on the Punta Cana–Mendoza route. Furthermore, the airline is scheduled to launch flights on the Punta Cana–Rosario route on June 16, expanding direct international offerings from the interior and bolstering the decentralization of the commercial aviation system.
The results achieved between January and May firmly establish 2026 as the year with the highest historical commercial aviation activity for this period in Argentina.
