Porter Airlines Launches Operations at New Montreal Metropolitan Airport

Porter Airlines has formally initiated operations from Montreal Metropolitan Airport (MET), a major, privately funded domestic transportation infrastructure project located in Longueuil, on Montreal’s South Shore. Strategically timed for the summer travel season, this launch will immediately expand the city’s connectivity through a massive deployment of domestic routes.

A Historic Transformation for Montreal’s Connectivity

MET’s strategic location, characterized by its close proximity to the city center, will significantly improve air access for one of Canada’s most prominent urban hubs. Passenger traffic projections for the airport terminal are optimistic: it is estimated to reach one million users during its first year of operation, with a target of scaling up to four million annually once the airport reaches full capacity.

Michael Deluce, CEO of Porter Airlines, highlighted the impact of this rollout: “Launching 11 routes at once from a new airport to transform a city’s connectivity is exceptional. This is truly significant for the people, economy, and tourism of Montreal.”

Furthermore, the executive noted that initial demand is already outperforming the company’s expectations.

Route Schedule and Frequencies from MET

The airline’s expansion plan involves introducing flights to 11 airports across Canadian territory over the course of a week. Service began with four inaugural routes operated to Vancouver, Toronto Pearson, Toronto City, and St. John’s.

The official route schedule from MET is detailed below:

Economic Impact and Strategic Alliances

This launch represents a historic milestone for Montreal’s air travel sector, providing greater flexibility for both residents and visitors traveling across Canada. This boost in air connectivity also strengthens local economic development, stimulating trade and new business opportunities.

By combining the new services from MET with its ongoing operations at Montreal-Trudeau International Airport, Porter Airlines will nearly double its capacity in Greater Montreal this summer, adding more than 1,000 flights to its commercial network. Additionally, the carrier has finalized an alliance with Pascan Aviation that will enhance regional connections across Quebec, the Maritimes, and the rest of the airline’s North American network.

Fleet Efficiency and Premium Passenger Experience

Routes to and from MET will be served by a mixed fleet optimized for the short and medium-haul markets:

Both models rank among the quietest and most fuel-efficient aircraft within their respective categories. In terms of passenger comfort, the fleet features a 2-2 seating configuration, ensuring the total absence of middle seats.

Porter Airlines will offer complimentary amenities on these flights, including premium snacks and a selection of beverages (beer and wine served in glassware). Furthermore, passengers traveling aboard the Embraer E195-E2 aircraft will have access to fast, free inflight Wi-Fi.

The inauguration of operations at MET consolidates Porter Airlines’ growth strategy in the province of Quebec.
