Singapore Airlines has unveiled the most extensive overall transformation of its long-haul passenger product to date, backed by an investment exceeding S$2 billion (approximately US$1.56 billion). Slated to debut in the second half of 2027, the strategic rollout will introduce next-generation seating, Starlink satellite connectivity, 4K resolution displays, and a comprehensive overhaul of both in-flight and ground-handling services.
The announcement was made in Singapore, with Singapore’s Minister for Transport, Jeffrey Siow, attending as the guest of honour alongside the carrier’s executive leadership team.
Fleet Modernisation and Market Research
The development of the new First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy Class, and Economy Class cabins is the culmination of exhaustive global market research involving more than 5,000 frequent flyers, customers, crew members, and industry specialists through focus groups, in-depth interviews, surveys, and concept trials.
The study identified a sharp increase in passenger demand for greater privacy, ergonomic support, versatile space for rest and productivity, and seamless connectivity.
Reflecting on the milestone, Singapore Airlines Chief Executive Officer Goh Choon Phong stated:
“This launch marks another significant milestone in Singapore Airlines’ unwavering commitment to elevating the end-to-end travel experience. Our customers view Singapore Airlines as a seamless journey, and this substantial investment is engineered to deliver enhanced comfort, greater choice, and convenience across every touchpoint.”

Cabin Configuration and Tier-One Manufacturing Partners
The interior and cabin-technology upgrade will be executed via a phased rollout across two core widebody fleets:
- Boeing 777-9: The incoming flagship widebody aircraft will feature all four next-generation cabin classes (First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy Class, and Economy Class).
- Airbus A350-900 and A350-900ULR (Ultra-Long-Range): A total of 41 long-haul and ultra-long-range airframes will undergo retrofit programmes with the new Business Class cabin products. Additionally, the A350-900ULR variant will introduce a dedicated First Class cabin for the first time.
To execute the industrial design and manufacturing specifications, the flag carrier partnered with leading aerospace suppliers:
First Class: Designed by PriestmanGoode and manufactured by Collins Aerospace.

Business Class: Designed by Designworks and manufactured by RECARO Aircraft Seating.

Premium Economy Class and Economy Class: Designed by Factorydesign and manufactured by Collins Aerospace.

KrisWorld IFE System and Starlink In-Flight Connectivity
The carrier’s KrisWorld In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) platform will undergo a major technological upgrade to deliver a personalised, cinema-grade experience:
- Display Technology: Ultra-High-Definition (UHD) 4K touchscreens and Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) panels across select aircraft types.
- Audio & Personal Device Integration: Spatial audio integration and wireless Bluetooth pairing for personal headphones and headsets.
- Content Library & User Interface: Over 2,500 on-demand entertainment selections housed in a redesigned graphical user interface (GUI) featuring dedicated passenger wellness tools and preference-driven customisation.
- High-Speed Satellite Connectivity: Cabin broadband powered by SpaceX’s Starlink satellite constellation on equipped aircraft, optimised for continuous live streaming, remote productivity, and uninterrupted communication.
In-Flight Hospitality: Gastronomy, Tableware, and Amenities
The premium in-flight service concept includes an extensive revamp of menus, tableware, and passenger wellness amenities:
- Culinary Concepts: The introduction of over 100 new recipes spanning revitalised appetisers, main courses, and desserts across all cabins, paired with an expanded curation of fine wines and spirits.
- Bespoke Tableware: Custom tableware designed exclusively for the airline by French silversmith and luxury maison Christofle across Suites, First Class, and Business Class, with signature presentations featured in Suites and First Class.
- Sleep Amenities: 100% cotton sleeper suits in Suites and First Class, which will also be made available to Business Class passengers for the first time.

Ground-Product Investment and Changi Infrastructure
The capital expenditure programme extends well beyond the passenger cabin, allocating more than S$130 million toward the modernisation, expansion, and refurbishment of the global SilverKris Lounge network, including the airline’s primary operating base and hub at Singapore Changi Airport (SIN).
At the Changi hub, SilverKris First Class lounges will offer a full à la carte fine-dining experience, mirroring the premium hospitality offered in The Private Room.
In addition, passengers travelling in Suites and First Class will have access to upgraded, bespoke ground-handling services at Changi:
- Dedicated priority processing through airport security checkpoints and immigration control lanes.
- Exclusive concierge services offering full meet-and-greet assistance.
- Air-conditioned terminal buggy transfers between designated checkpoints, subject to operational availability.
Implementation Schedule
The rollout reinforces Singapore Airlines’ competitive positioning across premium long-haul international routes. Commercial entry into service for the new cabin interiors will formally commence in the second half of 2027, coinciding with deliveries of the upcoming Boeing 777-9 fleet and the cabin retrofit programme across its 41 Airbus A350-900 and A350-900ULR aircraft.
